One of the most crucial library skills is using the catalog to locate a book in the library. Third and fourth graders are getting a lot of practice doing this. Parents could take some time to explore our catalog from home with their kids. Another idea is to compare searches on the Beacon Heights catalog with Salt Lake City Library catalog.

This week we started recruiting library helpers. Three to five students from grades 3 and up are selected to become what we are calling BookCats. Each student has a section of the library that they keep in good order. Bookcats also help out with book checkouts and checkins.
The first week in the library went great. The students were amazing. We are reading some fractured fairy tales and the older kids are getting an introduction to Louis Sachar's newest book called Fuzzy Mud.
We are also reviewing and learning library skills. |
